PIEVE DEL PINO Co‑Living Residence

A contemporary community for independent senior living.
Perched on the gentle slopes of the Apennines, the Pieve del Pino project transforms an existing rural structure into an innovative co‑living residence for self‑sufficient older adults. The intervention reinterprets the traditional Italian countryside dwelling, combining a warm domestic atmosphere with the comforts of contemporary communal living.
The architectural strategy preserves the building’s stone envelope and its dialogue with the landscape, while introducing a series of light, precise insertions that redefine its interior life. Shared kitchens, living rooms, and hobby areas are placed at the heart of the complex to encourage daily encounters and a sense of belonging among residents.

Private units are compact yet generous in natural light, each opening toward views of wooded hills and cultivated terraces. Circulation is deliberately slow and barrier‑free, conceived as a sequence of small piazzette and quiet thresholds rather than corridors. Outdoor spaces — vegetable gardens, panoramic terraces, and sheltered courtyards — extend the domestic environment into the landscape, supporting both independence and community.
Sustainability is central to the project. Energy‑efficient systems, locally sourced materials, and passive design solutions reduce the environmental footprint while ensuring year‑round comfort. The result is a resilient, serene living environment where residents can enjoy autonomy while remaining part of an active, supportive community.
